How this page-number tool changes a PDF
Choose one PDF, set the first printed number, select either a bare number or “Page” followed by the number, and choose a bottom alignment. The tool draws the resulting label onto each page in order and downloads a revised PDF copy. It does not change the selected source file.
These are visible page-content marks, not PDF page labels or a navigational outline. Numbering begins with the first page in the file; the tool does not skip covers, detect existing numbers, or continue a sequence from text already printed on the page.
Add numbers and inspect the exported pages
- Enter a whole starting number, choose the label style, and select a bottom position.
- Choose one PDF up to 20 MB, then select “Add page numbers.” Processing runs in this browser.
- Open the downloaded copy and check the first, middle, and last pages for placement and overlap before sharing it.
The same position is used on every page. If the bottom margin contains a footer, table, signature, or other content, the added number can overlap it; inspect the copy and keep the original.
Limits before you number a PDF
This tool accepts one PDF per run and places one visible label at the bottom left, center, or right of every page. It has no per-page placement, header, custom font, skip-page, or multi-file controls. It does not identify existing page numbers or prevent duplicates.
Encrypted, malformed, empty, or structurally unsupported PDFs may fail to open. Saving a revised copy can invalidate an existing digital signature, and document-level interactive features may not behave as before. Review the exported file with the reader you plan to use.
The selected PDF is read and rewritten in the browser; the original stays on your device. The PDF library is loaded as a site asset. Do not use this page for a document you are not authorized to modify.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering after a cover page?
No. The tool numbers every page in the selected file in order. It does not skip pages; choose a starting value only to change the visible sequence.
Does it replace page numbers already printed in the PDF?
No. It adds another visible label and does not detect or remove existing printed numbers. Check for duplicates or overlap in the downloaded copy.
Does this create PDF page labels for navigation?
No. It draws visible text into page content. It does not create or edit the PDF's page-label navigation metadata.
Use this tool only on documents you own or are authorized to modify.
